My Bucket List… of Art

Posted By Joe Posted on October 2, 2020

I’ve been going to art museums since I was very young. I remember going on adventures with my grandparents to downtown Chicago where we’d go to the Art Institute of Chicago, which I think was my first art museum.

Of course, when I was young I didn’t have quite the appreciation for art that I have now. When I was in college, my love of art really blossomed. One of the biggest things in my apartments in college was a framed poster of Hopper’s Nighthawks–which, of course, was one of the most famous paintings at the Art Institute of Chicago. One of my favorite movies of all time is Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, which also features a trip to the Art Institute. Luckily, the Art Institute was within driving distance of my dorm rooms and my college apartments, so I was able to visit fairly often.

Soon after starting to record my bucket list, as I was such a fan of art, I continuously found myself adding art museums to the list, but couldn’t remember what pieces of art were in which location(s). As I began to dream about seeing all of the art on the list, I recorded a separate, painting-specific bucket list where I started to keep track of my favorite paintings, and where and when I had seen them. I’ve replicated that list here. There’s about 100 paintings here, though I may add more as time goes on and I discover more that I must see.

Joe

Joe grew up between the suburbs of Chicago, IL; San Antonio, TX; and in Columbus, IN. He went to Purdue where he studied Engineering. Soon after, he moved to Dallas, TX and worked as a field salesperson for a few different manufacturing companies. In 2016, he left the world of manufacturing to work at Southwest Airlines. In his free time, Joe enjoys listening to music, 3D modeling, playing with Arduino boards and Raspberry Pis, playing board games, being an amateur mixologist, watching sports, and (of course) eating too much food. (Please note that opinions expressed on this blog are those of Joe, and not of Southwest Airlines.)

“Immersive” & “Experiential” Art

People who know me understand that I’m a real art geek. I’m an engineer, and I’d argue with anyone that engineering is art–and if it isn’t, you’re doing it wrong. I define immersive and experiential art as “art that has

Caribbean Cruise Ports

Like cruise ships, not all cruise ports are created equal. In this entry, I’ll list all of the Caribbean ports I’ve been to, rated from “worst to first,” and I’ll include some thoughts on each of the ports of call.
